On January 29th, 1996, 3D Realms released the shareware version of its classic first-person shooter, Duke Nukem 3D. Duke Nukem 3D is one of the best shooters released, featuring some clever one-liners that were voiced by Jon St. John. And in order to celebrate Dukeâs 22nd birthday, we are presenting you some of its greatest mods.
First things first, Duke Nukem fans should download EDuke32. EDuke32 is an awesome free homebrew game engine and source port of Duke Nukem 3D that fixes an insane amount of programming errors, allows players to choose between two different hardware accelerated OpenGL renderers, supports high resolutions and adds tons of optional new features that make the playerâs life easier including modern status display/HUD, support for loading mods from the startup window, and modern, WSAD-based controls with thoroughly reworked mouse aiming.
The second must-have mod is the High Resolution Pack. This pack works with EDuke32 and features 32-bit high resolution textures with (at least) 4x the detail of the original textures, polymer renderer for EDuke32 offering advanced effects like normal/specular mapping, complex lighting system and more. In addition, the Duke Nukem 3D High Resolution Pack can replace the enemy sprites with new/custom 3D models.
Those wishing to replay Duke Nukem 3Dâs campaign can also use the Duke Nukem: Weapon of Mass Destruction mod. Duke Nukem: Weapon of Mass Destruction is a gameplay mod that features tons of new weapon modes, enemies, and player abilities, such as UT style dodge moves, spinning hook kicks, and a Duke bot companion who fights by your side. In some levels you can even get in your skycar and fly it, doing bombing runs on enemies. In this mod, Duke collects glowing coins from slain enemies which are used to purchase various upgrades via a mouse controlled menu. In addition, each of Dukeâs weapons has its own experience level which increases with use.
The fourth mod we recommend is the Duke Nukem 64 mod. As its title suggests, this mod aims to bring all the stuff that were present in the Nintendo64 version of Duke Nukem 3D to the PC version. Badland 2000 lb. marine electric winch amp draw. This is a similar project to Doom 64 and we believe that some players will find it interesting.
The fifth mod is a project that aimed to bring the world of Doom to the Duke Nukem 3D engine. Hellduke! TC is a Doom based total conversion which allows many features to player such as environment changes, new art, new levels, new music and many more. While this project was never finished, PC gamers can download a version that features two episodes.
Of course we do have to mention the Duke Nukem Forever 2013 mod for it. As its title suggests, this mod recreates everything that was shown in Duke Nukem Foreverâs 2011 trailer in Duke Nukem 3D. Itâs an amazing mod, so be sure to download it.
Duke Forces is another cool mod for Duke Nukem 3D. This modification inspired by the Star Wars Dark Forces series and automatically converts weapons, enemies, textures, sprites, music and pretty much everything into Star Wars content.
PC gamers can also check out Duke Nukem Eternity. This mod aims to deliver a more modern looking experience from a very advanced an updated version of the BUILD engine. Duke Nukem Eternity features new real-time lighting techniques, as well as true 3D geometry.
Fusion Redux is also a cool mod for Duke Nukem 3D. This mod mixes weapons, enemies, art and level concepts from diverse FPS games, including Half-Life, Unreal, Quake I and II, and Blood. It looks absolutely retro-gorgeous, so be sure to download it.
Last but not least, you can give a go at Duke Hard and Metropolitan Mayhem. Duke Hard adds 17 maps and is inspired by the Die Hard movies, whereas Metropolitan Mayhem adds 15 maps and itâs themetically very close to the original first and third episodes (LA Meltdown & Shrapnel City) of Duke Nukem 3D, concentrating almost exclusively on classic urban-themed maps.
Have fun!

I don't have any numbers or anything, but it seems that fans feel id did a good job with Doom 2016 overall. A few issues here and there with Snap Map and multiplayer and such, but for the most part, I think fans are accepting of this addition to the Doom catalog.
Brutal Duke Nukem 3d
I think id was under a lot of pressure with Doom 2016. They had to show the video game world that one of the original FPS's was still relevant and could still be really fun all these years later on next gen technology. They were in the same position as the folks that pushed Duke Nukem Forever out were. id succeeded, whereas it seems agreed upon by many that Duke Nukem Forever failed.
So my question is, with id having done so well with this new Doom, do you think it might light a fire under the asses of whoever owns Duke Nukem to try again and return the iconic figure to his rightful place? IMO, Doom and Duke Nukem have always been THE originals. Sure, Wolfenstein, Quake, etc. But for me, it was always Doom and Duke Nukem that made my childhood more badass. I really hope that the guys who own Duke Nukem now can see what id did to make Doom so damn good, and let it inspire them to give Duke Nukem another shot at starring in a great game.
If id never made another Doom game after this one, I would feel content with the way it left off. I would feel like Doom got an appropriate and well deserved send off. If they never made another Duke Nukem game, I would be sad. Duke Nukem Forever is no way to retire such a cool video game character. Hopefully they will be inspired by id and come at Duke Nukem with a fresh, new plan of attack.

FPS fans, here is something special for you today. Vostyok has just released the first episode of his total conversion mod for Doom 2, Ashes 2063 TC. Ashes 2063 TC is heavily inspired by 90âs FPS games and 80âs post-apocalyptic movies, and you will immediately notice some similarities to Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior and Blood.
Ashes 2063 is a total conversion for Doom2, running on the GZDoom port. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, adds several new features and a rather tongue-in-cheek storyline based on a multitude of PA movies, books and games. Skyrim best new lands mods list.
As the modder noted, the first episode follows the basic framework of Ultimate Doom. Every weapon has been replaced up to plasma rifle, 8 new monsters, and a full custom soundtrack has been added. Vostyok also plans to release a second episode that will include a lot more content than the original Doom.
Those interested can download the mod from here and all you have to do in order to play it is drag and drop it onto Gzdoom. Those using NASHGORE, will need to set up a shortcut with this commandline:
â -file Ashes2063maps.wad -file Nashgore.wad -file Ashes2063mod.pk3â³
For more details you can also check its official forum thread at ZDoom.

Duke Nukemâs biggest rival, Serious Sam, has embraced VR with open, overly-muscular arms, but where is Dukeâs own VR game? With a little help from a fan and Sam himself, itâs getting there.
Serious Duke 3D is a partial remake of Duke Nukem 3D with full VR support. Created by Syndroid, itâs essentially a mod of Serious Sam 3 using Croteamâs Serious Sam Fusion platform (which youâll need to own in order to play). That means thereâs full support for motion controllers and, as a video recently shared by Syndroid shows, even a pretty good approximation of Dukeâs full avatar in VR. Sounds and other assets have been taken from the original game to provide an authentic experience.
This being a Serious Sam mod, you can also play the levels in co-op, although Syndroid does advise to keep it to a maximum of four players considering the game was initially designed as a single-player experience.
Right now the mod has the gameâs first three levels ready to play and the developer aims to add two more, rounding out the L.A. Meltdown episode. Syndroid doesnât yet know if a remake of the first level of the gameâs second episode is on the cards, too. Itâs about as close to Duke in VR as weâre ever likely to get after the disastrous release of 2011âs Duke Nukem Forever.
Duke Nukem 3d Doom Mod
This isnât the first shooter from this era of gaming thatâs getting the VR treatment. We recently reported that another modder has just released a VR version of Wolfenstein 3D, and you can play Doom and Heretic in headsets, too. Whatâs old is new again, I guess.

New mod brings together two great '90s shooters, and the result is as gnarly as it sounds.

The next time I find myself wrestling with my personal demons, I'll have to remember how I handled a particularly troublesome hellspawn in the new Duke It Out in Doom modification (mod) for Doom II. Gif wallpaper free download. I simply pulled out my Shrinker gun, morphed him down to the size of a bug, and squashed the beefy mass of teeth and sinew to a bloody pulp with Duke Nukem's combat boot. 'Arrivederci, motherfucker,' Duke said.
Duke It Out in Doom is a new mod from 'JohnnyCee' that lets you play 1994's Doom II: Hell on Earth as Duke Nukem, the politically incorrect action hero of gaming past that kicks ass while spouting sexist epithets. It's exceptionally well done. There's Duke's voice from Duke Nukem 3D, providing commentary when I step on shrunken demons ('Splat!') or pummeling corrupted soldiers with my gloved fists ('Confucius say 'Die!'). Chainsaws get swapped out for shrink rays, health boosts get swapped out for spinning disks with Duke's beloved nuke symbol, and Duke yells out 'Fuck!' when a demon manages to get his claws into him. As someone who was a teenager in the '90s, this is the kind of stuff that gets me to smiling big, stupid grins.
JohnnyCee created another mod that lets players play Duke It Out in Doom with the music from Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown, but you'll have to download it separately.
Both Doom and Doom II came out more than two decades ago, but they've enjoyed a healthy life through mods in the years since. One of the most popular in recent years was Sergeant Mark IV's Brutal Doom mod, which heightened the violence of the original by allowing players to do things like blow a demon's head off or kick another one to death while he calls for help. Famed Doom creator John Romero called it 'hilarious.'
Elsewhere, heavily pixelated blood from wounds drips from walls and ceilings, and guns have realistic sounds largely missing in the 1994 version. This is the kind of things Doom's players love, and Brutal Doom took off so well that some players argue it had an influence on the direction id Software's bloody Doom reboot coming in May. (As I learned from id's Marty Stratton last July, it's probably better to say they've 'gone down similar paths.')
Duke It Out in Doom isn't anywhere near as violent as all thatâwhen enemies die here, they largely just fall over in the same way as they did in Doom In 1994. But it succeeds in a similar way. Brutal Doom allows modern players to experience some of the shock we first felt while playing Doom in 1993, whereas Duke It Out In Doom pairs two of the first great first-person shooters and captures what made both so memorable in the process.
Want to try it out? You'll need to download the latest version of 3DGE, download the Duke It Out in Doom file, and drag the latter over the 3DGE's executable. Voilà . You'll hear all about how Duke's an 'equal-opportunity ass-kicker' in no time.
